A TRULY LOCAL COMPANY

A local company on a global scale is how best to define Macmillan Africa. Although we enjoy all the advantages of a large international company, our real strength lies with the local companies, which together form what has become the strongest publishing network in Africa.

In total there are 22 offices covering all corners of the continent. From Addis Ababa to Johannesburg, Banjul to Dar es Salaam, each office has its own individual character, yet is undeniably Macmillan. Investment in local publishing is key to our success, which is the reason why we are investing heavily in new publishing projects, information technology, recruitment and training. Our ability to build long-term relationships with governments, advisors, specialists, authors and our customers is also important to us.

The Macmillan Writers Prize for Africa is a long-term project, and part of our long-term strategy to raise the profile of African literature in Africa, the UK and America. With the full backing of Macmillan Education, the Prize aims to encourage new and well-established authors to put pen to paper, and submit new previously unpublished works, which will capture the imagination of children.
