how to enter

The competition is open to all nationals or naturalised citizens throughout Africa and to those born in those countries.
All entries must be original, unpublished works in English. Plays and poems are not eligible.
Entrants are not expected to illustrate their stories unless of course they wish to do so. This will not affect the assessment.
All entrants are requested to read carefully the
Rules and Conditions of Entry before submitting their work with a completed entry form to their nearest Macmillan office.
Entries for all awards will be assessed on originality of the work, the quality of writing and the work’s appeal to the intended audience.

Entries should be fiction and entered into one of the following categories:

Junior Award
An original story in English for children in the 8 – 12 age range
Length: Up to 10,000 words

Senior Award
An original story in English for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17
Length: 14,000 to 20,000 words
